light

One of my favorite things about living in San Francisco is the ever-changing light.

Chrissie Field and Fort Mason, areas facing the Golden Gate Bridge, are especially dramatic and change many times throughout the day as the clouds build, the winds come, and the day unfolds.

The (previous) Bay Bridge experience with its stacked decks allowed for spectacular views when driving into San Francisco from the East Bay. Only taken a few years ago, they are memories of the old bridge.

graffiti

I’ve been excited by graffiti for many years from a purely visual standpoint.

Knowing the transitory nature of street art and graffiti, I felt that I could achieve two things:  create compositions of graffiti that would become pieces of art in themselves, and capture and preserve something that is constantly changing.

I chose to print these particular photographs on canvas because I felt that the colors and textures more closely recreated the original experience.

Zen series A few years back, I celebrated my birthday in Bali and Tokyo with good friends. The daily offerings in Ubud of flower petals and little bits of rice, laid out on a banana leaf, were delights that we looked forward to seeing every day. In Tokyo, the stark contrast of the ancient temples living in close harmony with the modern expanse of a glass and mirrored skyrise and the pulsing motion of light and traffic. The colors, mix of materials, and collection of tiny things were inspired from these two places.   Each piece is 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" on Arches or Strathmore watercolor paper, with bits of wire, gold leaf on paper, magazine or book pages.   $1200 (USD) each, including matte and frame (black metal). Please inquire if interested and to confirm availability.
